Lady Falcon Softball

team~

The Lady Falcons return seven position players from the 2007 season including local standouts Kathleen Nichols (FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference Honorable Mention) and Natalie Dalton (FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference Honorable Mention). Also returning are infielders Kristina Holland (FCCAA Mid-Florida All-Conference Second Team), Shannon McLeese (FCCAA Mid-Florida All-Conference Second Team), Kylee Oldfield and Kristen Hinkle (both ranked on the NJCAA Region VIII Homerun Poll). Returning behind the plate this year is Airen Payne (FCCAA Mid-Florida All-Conference First Team). The NJCAA Region VIII Statistics listed the 2007 Lady Falcons as fourth in team batting averages.

The Falcons have several new faces on the roster. Although the majority of them are new to college athletics they are extremely skilled and eager to take their game to the next level. New local talent this year includes Mallory McGrath and Erin Gerken both from Seabreeze H.S., Ashley Broughton and Kasey Canfield both from Pine Ridge H.S., Brittany Lacari from Deltona H.S., and Melissa Howell from Mainland H.S.

There are three new pitchers on the roster this year; Katie Murphy, Brandi Davis, and Stephanie Owen. “They will be great additions to our pitching staff and add some much needed depth to our mound. They each have a strong suite different to the others. Their diversity on the mound should keep our opponents off balance.”

Offensively, the Falcons will be very strong. “We have some strong hitters coming in this year.” Jessica Moreland’s big bat and Shea Doricchi’s speed will help cover the corners. Defensively, Kelsea Bulock and Sara Hart, will help lead from behind the plate. Brittany Licari’s strong arm, Alex Apostolico’s speed, and Jennifer McKenney’s range, will complement our outfield.

Expectations for this upcoming year are high as our sophomores have a full year of experience. The talented group of incoming freshman brings speed and flexibility to our lineup as most are capable of playing more than one position. This year’s team should improve on last year’s record of 27-17, defend our 2007 championship title at the Triple Crown Classic, and return to the state tournament as a force to reckon with.

The coaching staff and all of our student-athletes take both academics and athletics together seriously. With team work and focus in the classroom and on the field we will succeed. The outlook is positive for another successful season at Daytona Beach College.
