More about our team.... |
The Lady Falcon Golf Team finished its 9th season with a 3rd place finish at the 2007 NJCAA National Championship. This 3rd place finish comes after recording a 2nd place finish at the 2006 Championship and capturing 3 consecutive NJCAA Championships in 2003, 2004, and 2005. DBC is fortunate to have three players returning that finished in the top-10 at the national championship. Ashley Aguilera led the team by posting a fourth place finish and received first team All-American honors. Jordan Lazenby posted an 8th place finish and Rachel Edwards finished in 9th place, both receiving second team All-American honors.
The Lady Falcons golf team is comprised of eight student-athletes – five sophomores and three freshmen. This squad is extremely talented and very motivated to regain the national championship in 2008. By competing against four-year universities during the regular season, the Lady Falcons are hopeful that the extensive competition will raise the team’s playing abilities and produce record setting scores.
Returning players for the Lady Falcons include Ashley Aguilera from Holiday, FL, Rachel Edwards from Seminole, FL, Victoria Harris from the United Kingdom, and Jordan Lazenby from Casselberry, FL. New players to the program include Andrea Rojas from Bogota, Columbia who is a transfer student from Redlands Community College and three freshman including Kristen Boettcher from Palm Coast, FL, Meghan Hughes from New Smyrna Beach, FL and Melissa Magdor from Oviedo, FL. I am looking to the entire squad to play a very important role in the team’s success. With eight talented players and only five playing in a tournament at a time, the competitiveness in these young ladies is bound to emerge. Each player is capable of qualifying for one of the five traveling positions, which will allow everyone to contribute to the success of the team.
The Lady Falcons goal this year is to have continued success on the golf course as well as in the classroom. Last year, an overall team GPA of 3.59 demonstrated the team’s hard work and dedication to their studies. This very impressive GPA also earned the team the Florida Community College Athletic Association (FCCAA) Female Academic Team of the Year Honors. The successful finishes that the team has posted at the National Championship over the last several years have also proven their commitment to the sport and their desire to be the best. With DBC hosting the 2008 NJCAA National Golf Championships once again we look to have a strong showing and hope to regain National Champion status.
